Elsewhere in Europe, retail sales of replacement tyres to consumers in the region rose 3% year-on-year in the first quarter, with all-season tyres up a strong 14%, according to figures from the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA). Total passenger car tyre sales (including summer, winter and all-season tyres) reached 58.7 million units, up from 57.3 million units in the same period last year.

Specifically, summer tyre sales fell 3%, winter tyres increased 5%, while all-season tyres continued to expand strongly thanks to consumer preference. This recovery continues a growth trend that began in the second half of 2024, with production now close to the level achieved in the first quarter of 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

In contrast, truck and bus tyre sales fell 4% year-on-year and 11% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2019, due to the impact of economic and political uncertainty. Agricultural tyres also fell 4% year-on-year, not yet recovering to pre-pandemic levels. Motorcycle and scooter tyres, meanwhile, grew 7%, but from a low base in 2024.

The growth trend of all-season tyres reflects the shift of European consumers towards convenience and the ability to use tyres flexibly in a variety of weather conditions, reducing maintenance costs and seasonal tyre replacement. The European tyre market is growing strongly with the increase in the number of vehicles, especially electric vehicles, and technological innovation focusing on durability, performance and environmental friendliness.

In summary, the strong demand for all-season tires has contributed to raising total replacement tire sales (for passenger cars) in Europe to levels close to pre-pandemic levels, in the context of the market gradually recovering and adapting to new trends in technology and consumption.
